Lauren K. Stewart
ADVANCE Professor, College of Engineering
Dr. Lauren K. Stewart is the Williams Family Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Programs in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Stewart is the Director of Georgia Tech’s Structural Engineering and Materials Laboratory and is a leader in creating innovative experimental strategies to investigate the behavior of structures subjected to extreme environments. Her research on explosives and ballistic effects has impacted various national security programs for agencies including Air Force Research Laboratory, US Army ERDC, US Department of Agriculture, and the US Navy.
She received her Ph.D. in Structural Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, where she also completed her M.S. and B.S. degrees. Since joining Georgia Tech in 2013, she received the CEE Research Program Development Award, the was named an Air Force Summer Faculty Fellow, and was part of the initial cohort of the New Voices of the National Academies. For her teaching, she has won the Hesburgh Teaching Award and Georgia Tech’s Women in Engineering Teaching Excellence Award, among others.
