Launch: New Faculty Orientation - August 2026
Welcome to Georgia Tech, New Faculty!
On behalf of the Vice Provost for Faculty, Dr. Michelle Rinehart, we welcome you to Georgia Tech and look forward to supporting your success as a faculty member. You are now part of a unique community dedicated to enacting our mission to improve the human condition through advanced science and technology.
Launch Day
Sponsored by the Offices of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Faculty Professional Development, orientation for all new permanent academic faculty will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 8am to 5pm in the form of Launch Day. Breakfast will be available before the event, and lunch will be served.
Invitations will be sent to eligible new academic faculty in late July. If you do not receive an invitation by August 1, please reach out to OFPD@gatech.edu.
Launch Resource Library
In addition to Launch Day, new academic faculty will receive access to the Launch Resource Library (LRL) Canvas page. This living resource contains vital information on policies and procedures related to teaching, research, service, and being at Tech. The page will be regularly updated. Access to this page will be provided in the Launch Day invitation email. If you do not receive access by August 1, please reach out to OFPD@gatech.edu.
Additional Events and Opportunities
Center for Teaching and Learning Workshops
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) will host a Fall Teaching Kickoff event on Monday, August 17. This year's event includes sessions on GT courses policies and the syllabus template, supporting Student Success and Wellbeing, and breakout sessions on teaching large courses, active learning, and more. You can join us for the entire day or just the sessions that fit your schedule.
CTL will also host a Canvas Click-Off event on Wednesday, August 18, 10am-3pm in Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons (CULC) 102. Topics include getting started with Canvas, using the Canvas course template, setting up your gradebook, and more. You can join us for the entire day or just the sessions that fit your schedule.
